Civilians are passive NPCs in Cruelty Squad, and are incapable of damaging the player. If approached and interacted with, civilians will talk to the player, offering a line of dialogue. If a weapon is fired or an NPC is killed near them, they will begin running sporadically, and will be unable to be talked to for the remainder of the level. Civilians have 15 health and can be killed the same as humanoid enemies and can drop most basic Parts, such as livers, stomachs, brains, etc.
Many levels have guaranteed NPCs with multiple lines of dialogue, which are NOT civilians. In the options menu, there is a percent slider for civilian spawns, ranging from "Off" (0%) to "MAX" (100%.) The percent amount of civilians can be adjusted any number in-between. Reducing civilian numbers will reduce clutter and lag.
Civilians are different within every level of the game, including where they spawn, what they look like, and what dialogue they can provide. Below is a list of their unique aspects within every level. Much of the civilian dialogue pertains to the specifics of each level or the world of the game.
In Chaos Mode, some civilians will have one of three random modifiers applied to them; invisibility, armored bodies, or gas clouds upon death.
